Mel Ollivier; Breathwork Practitioner

Experiencing your breath, the seat of the detached witness, and awareness.

I had an absolutely fabulous time chatting with Mel Ollivier about the amazing work she does - all of which has breath at the centre of it!

Have a listen and let us know your thoughts! Have you focused on your breathing before? Do you try and bring awareness to where in your body you're holding your breath? Can you remember a time when your breath has calmed you down, or perhaps, done the opposite?

You'll be seeing more of Mel in the coming weeks, and we are so excited to have her on the Shine team!

If you're interested in learning more about her upcoming Pre-natal course, or her other offerings, please check out: https://lalunawellnessstudio.ca/

P.S., I'm sorry about the echo-y volume you hear form me (face palm). I promise I'll understand this podcast thing soon! But the new microphone is VERY exciting!

Tressa Beaulieu, RD.

Fad diets, client-centred approach, and poop talks!

The first podcast is live!! What a BLAST with my long time friend, Tressa. Chatting about healthy relationships with food, and with ourselves, is something we are so passionate about. Tressa is so insightful and a wealth of knowledge! I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording it!

Any/all feedback here would be lovely! Thoughts on anything we said? Does any of this resonate with you? Feeling conflicted or confused about something? Let us know. These are just our thoughts and neither Tressa nor I are speaking to anyone else' POV. Please know that, like many of you, we have had many experiences with our bodies and food that led us to our current perspectives. We use humour in a lot of ways to poke fun at ourselves - but please know that any journey you are on is okay, and normal (what is "normal," anyways?) ?

P.S., I am still working on figuring this whole podcast thing out - so bear with me as the quality isn't perfect quite yet!

Enjoy!

Eating & Food with Kids

Returning guest, Tressa Beaulieu (RD), chatted with me about Food, Feeding, and Eating with Kids.

We covered:

How do I teach my child healthy eating habits?

My child is a picky eater. How do I get them to try new foods/eat more fruits and veggies?

How do I teach my child healthy eating habits if I struggle with eating and weight?

My child wants to eat the same foods everyday. Is this okay?

& more!

Tressa chats a lot about exposure and exploration with children! Teaching children to eat with their 5 senses. She refers to Ellen Satters and her practice's, which you can read more on here:

https://www.ellynsatterinstitute.org/.../the-division-of.../

You can also check out: https://www.sarahremmer.com/

As an FYI: Neither Tressa nor I have children, but we both feel strongly about being mindful with children when teaching them life style practices that they will use their whole life! Tressa has a great deal of experience in this topic, I found this super interesting!

What are your thoughts? Do you have kids? Did you research how to chat about food with your kids? Did you find anything helpful? We'd love to hear your comments, questions, and concerns below!

Team So Extra

It all begins with an idea.

Leading and living a healthy life is so much more than physical activity. Truly, that idea itself is why I created the SHINE Program. Abby said in her podcast two weeks ago, that what you surround yourself with - what you listen to, what you eat, what you watch, where you go, and mostly, the people and relationships in your life - is so important. In this episode, we go into a great amount of detail on relationships that fuel your soul.

We are "Team So Extra" (@team_so_extra); this podcast was a little bit more off script and personal, but honestly I think it is so valuable. If you can get past the giggling and the banter (because there is a lot of that), you'll learn a little more about what we believe to be the foundation of a happy, healthy life.

Nancy and MaryAnn joined me in chatting about the importance of

Values - individually and in relationships

Defining your purpose

Mindset

All in relation to whatever your pursuit is.

Be picky with who you surround yourself with. Make sure you're giving time to people who make you feel good. You're allowed to be selfish with your time.

Jill McColl, MSW.

It all begins with an idea.

Physical health and mental health go hand in hand! They are not mutually exclusive of one another, and both are equally important to pay attention to and work on, each and every day.

The last few months have been especially challenging for folks - teens included! I chatted with Jillian McColl, MSW., about some tips and tricks when focusing on mental health.

We chatted about:

The importance of routine

Rainbow Scheduling

The "thoughts - feelings - behaviours" triangle

And so much more.

Mental health is a life long journey. We're not perfect. Having conversations like these make the process a little bit easier. I thoroughly enjoyed my chat with Jill, and I hope you do, too.
